Every air source heat pump installation follows a structured process to ensure the system is correctly designed, installed and commissioned for your property. While every home is different, these are the seven key stages LAMTANS Engineering follows for homeowners in Manchester and across the UK.
01Free Consultation and Eligibility Check
We start with a conversation about your property, your current heating system and what you want to achieve. At this stage we also check whether you may be eligible for funding support, including the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and ECO4 where applicable, so you know your options before committing to anything.
02Home Survey and Heat-Loss Assessment
A full technical survey is the foundation of a successful installation. Our surveyor visits your home to calculate room-by-room heat loss and assess everything the system design depends on:
- Property size, layout and construction type
- Room-by-room heat-loss calculations
- Existing radiators and pipework suitability
- Hot water demand and cylinder requirements
- Electrical capacity and consumer unit condition
- Insulation levels, with a PAS2035 retrofit assessment where applicable
- Suitable positions for the indoor and outdoor units
03System Design and Quotation
Using the survey results, we design a system correctly sized for your home — the heat pump output, hot water cylinder, radiator upgrades if needed, and controls. We then provide a clear written quotation with everything itemised, and talk you through the design so you understand exactly what will be installed and why. Any grant funding you qualify for is shown clearly in the quotation.
04Grant Application Support
If you are eligible for support, we handle the paperwork for you. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) currently provides a grant of up to £7,500 towards an eligible air source heat pump installation in England and Wales, subject to scheme rules and property eligibility. Depending on your circumstances, ECO4 or Warm Homes Plan support may also be available — eligibility always depends on household circumstances, property condition and scheme requirements.
05Installation (Typically 2–5 Days)
Installation itself typically takes 2–5 days depending on the complexity of the system and any radiator or pipework upgrades. A typical installation involves:
- Positioning and mounting the outdoor unit on a stable base or brackets
- Installing the indoor unit and hot water cylinder
- Connecting pipework between the outdoor unit, indoor unit and heating system
- Upgrading any radiators identified at the survey stage
- Electrical connection and controls wiring
- Insulating pipework and sealing external penetrations
06Commissioning and Handover
Once installed, the system is fully commissioned: refrigerant and water circuits are checked, flow temperatures are set for your property, and the system is tested through its operating cycle. We then walk you through the controls, show you how to get the best from your heat pump, and hand over all documentation — commissioning records, guarantees and certification paperwork for the installation.
07Aftercare and Maintenance
After installation, we remain on hand for support. Air source heat pumps need relatively little maintenance, but an annual service helps keep the system running efficiently and protects your guarantees. If anything needs attention, our Manchester-based team supports customers across the UK.
